Conclusions

Did we like it?

The performance of the 0508ULA-5G1 was actually quite good, with both the fans managing to keep the system as a whole reasonably quiet, even under load. Matched with the correct GPU/CPU cooling you could well have a winner. Until perhaps you take into account the flaws that seem to affect the 0508ULA-5G1. The poorly designed turbine fan, the easily damaged paint surface with an annoyingly white undercoat, the poor drive to graphics card clearance and some seriously sharp edges inside.

Value: We had a good look around for a retail price for the 0508ULA-5G1, and only managed to find similar cases on sale at Maplin for £40 and on a Canadian website for £42 (at the current exchange rate). It's fair to say that £40-45 is probably the expected price for the 0508ULA-5G1, so it is actually placed within the budget end of the market. With no PSU present though, £45 is actually quite expensive for what is little more than a painted steel case with a big fan, but if the design appeals to you buying it wont hit you too hard in the pocket.

To summarise:

Pros:
Shiny finish
Good cooling ability
Low noise

Cons:
Poor quality paintjob
Flawed front fan design
Sharp internal edges

Final thoughts

With a market so heavily saturated with budget cases, it takes an exceptional product to stand out and be noticed. The iCute 0508ULA-5G1 tries its best, with an original turbine design, a rarely seen 25cm side fan and a paintjob that at first glance looks like it belongs on a sports car. The difference between a good budget case and a bad one is simply down to idea implementation and in this case iCute hasn't quite hit the bullseye.

Saying that, if you are after an original looking case, with aesthetics that might draw second glances then the iCute 0508ULA-5G1 might actually fit your bill. That, of course, is if you can find one for sale anywhere...
